Yesterday was a big step forward in emending the infrastructure of municipal elections. City council voted in favour of electoral reform, which will include using a ranked choice balloting system, allow permanent residents to vote and also put together a working group to implement internet voting for folks with disabilities.

With 2014 elections on the horizon, and in light of Ford’s recent decision to axe the only women left sitting on the Executive Committee, it’s time to start working towards seeing a more diverse City Council and increased representation of progressive women in politics.
