This summer, a 25-bed shelter dedicated to LGBTQS youth will open in Toronto.  This much-needed facility has been in discussion for some time at City Hall, and we’re pleased to see the fruition of many months of advocacy and negotiations regarding budgets and feasibility studies.  It was confirmed in Toronto’s 2015 City budget.

LGBTQS youth often experience discrimination and abuse, including within the shelter system.  A dedicated space will help to ease the harms of precarious housing, homelessness and further discrimination.

This shelter will be the first of its kind in Canada and we hope to see many other cities follow Toronto’s example!
